3 Wheeled Buggies
A 3-wheel buggy is great for off-roading and taking on terrains from bumpy pavements to woodland tracks. They are also easier to navigate on kerbs, and they are less prone to slipping down when compared to 4-wheel models.
Kath, the editor of MadeForMums reviews, has tested one of these 3-wheelers on tarmac, as well as on various terrains. Check out her review here.
Stability
With four wheels and a centre of gravity that's balanced by weight of your child in the seat, buggies with four wheels are generally considered to be more stable than triwheelers. But that doesn't mean the three-wheel buggie isn't worth considering, since some of these models are designed to handle anything from rough terrain to bustling high-streets.
If you want a buggie that is easy to control and won't let you down on bumpy pavements, look for one with big rear wheels and a lockable front wheel. These all-terrain buggies also have pneumatic tires that are ideal for handling non-paved surfaces. They can be used on sandy beaches or woodland tracks.
These are also the best buggies to be running with, since they offer great stability over rougher ground and help you keep up with your jogging partner. They can also be used to go up and down steep kerbs and many come with a spring suspension built-in so that your baby can enjoy a smooth ride.
The one thing that can make a pushchair with three wheels difficult to manoeuvre is the wide frame, which makes it more difficult to maneuver through tight spaces and narrow doors than a 4-wheeler. However, some manufacturers have tackled this issue by implementing clever design that lets the wheels turn up when they are not in use, which reduces their overall size, and allows you get through doors without difficulty.
You'll also need to consider whether your buggy is suitable for your little one from birth or if you're thinking of using it with an infant car seat or carry cot. Find out if the buggy comes with a lie-flat feature and if it is compatible with a second seat as well as buggy boards if you plan to take an infant along. Many 3-wheelers can fold flat, and then be stacked upright. This is a great option if you only have a small boot space or a small amount of storage space at home. However, some will require you to remove the front wheel prior to folding in order to fit into even more compact space.
Manoeuvrability
Three-wheeled buggies generally offer better manoeuvrability than pushchairs with four wheels. A majority of them have an swivelling wheel at the front which allows you to steer and change direction using one hand. Some also have a lockable front wheel which can give you stability on rougher terrain. Some models can even be used with a second seat or buggy board if you're looking to grow your family.
If you're considering taking your three-wheeled buggy off paved tracks, it's worth opting for a vehicle that has tyres with air in them (also called pneumatic tyres) which are able to withstand the toughest terrain. These tyres will need regular pumping but will be far more durable than tyres that are solid and are more likely to be puncture-proof. Look for a model with a lockable swivelling front wheel to aid you in navigating difficult surfaces.
Having a single front wheel may also be a reason that three-wheelers tend to be bulkier than four-wheeled buggies when folded. Check that your chosen model fits in the boot of your car and can be raised in the event that it is necessary. Certain models can be folded with one hand and can be raised when folded. This can save space in the boot of your car.
A well-constructed three-wheeled pushchair can handle most terrains, from busy streets to forest tracks. It's important to think about the purpose you'll use for your day-to-day use. If you'll be running the school run, it must be able to handle steep slopes and kerbs. If you're planning to run on it, ensure it has a swivelling "stretch front wheel' that can be locked. This will keep the ride stable.
Kath who is an MFM reviewer, was able to determine that her stroller with three wheels was able to handle urban and walks in the countryside. She noted that it could navigate rocky paths, cobbles and bumpy pavements effortlessly and was comfortable to jog with too. It is also a good option for day trips since it is packed with storage space. 3 wheeled pushchairs comes with an enormous, spacious, zip-top covered basket as well as an extendable, 50+ UV hood. It can be modified to fit a baby's needs from birth, including an infant carry cot or a lie-flat seat. It's also compatible with the most well-known stroller seats and second seats.
Fabric Sling Seat
The main difference between a fabric and a modular seat is the fabric sling. It sits inside the buggy frame, as opposed to being placed on top like the modular chair. This enables a much more ergonomically-correct position for babies and instantly provides lower center of gravity and a more appropriate height. This results in an easier push, a lighter curb pop (you don't need as much weight and effort to lift the buggy off the nose of a curb) and a better balance and stability.
These buggy seats also feature Sling fabrics that are simple to clean and durable. These fabrics were developed specifically for Sling chairs and are highly UV-resistant and ventilated. These fabrics are also very easy to maintain with mild soap and warm water.
If you're a jogger or like to do some off-roading, then an all terrain buggy is more likely to suit your needs than a four-wheel buggy. These models have a larger base and are more stable. They also have air-filled tyres that allow for smooth and easy movement on rough terrain.
Maxi-Cosi, a brand known for its car seats, has added a new 3-wheeler with the Stella to its range of products. The all-terrain buggy has an impressive, spacious and impressively growing seat that can be a world-facing or parent face and reclines flat thanks to an improved 5-point safety harness. It can be used from birth with a car seat or carrycot and comes with a generously sized shopping basket and a hood that has zip pockets and a quick one-hand fold.
This 3 wheeler of luxury, designed for the most discerning buggy owners is as stunning to see as it is to use. The angular frame has a stunning pewter finish with touches of burnished aluminum. It is a real eye-catching piece. A large, padded seat that can be world or parent-facing with a more secure 5-point safety harness, as well as a full set of rain covers make this an ideal option for parents who are active.
Modular Seat
Modular seating can be set up in a variety of ways to meet a variety of seating requirements. Whether it's a cozy setup for watching movies or a spacious configuration for entertaining guests, modular seating is able to adjust easily. Many modular seating systems also come with cushion covers that can be removed, making it easier to wash spills and stains.
Modular Seating can be designed to blend with existing decors or be a standout as an accent piece. You can pick from a variety of colors, fabrics, and shapes to design a modular seating that suits your personal style. There are many functional features available in modular seating such as hidden storage compartments that allow an easy organization and cleaning of living spaces.
3-wheel buggies are particularly good for off-road and all-terrain adventures since they offer more stability than 4-wheel strollers. The huge, highly maneuverable front wheel enables agile and smooth movement, whereas the tyres are generally air filled and have suspension, providing an excellent ride on the roughest of roads and trails. The wheels aren't as close to the ground on these pushchairs, as they are on four wheeled pushchairs. This makes them great for walking uphill.
Often, 3-wheel prams are a favorite for parents who love running and jogging with their children because they offer superior mobility and are much more sleek than their 4-wheel counterparts. The GB Upp XL, for instance, features a sleek burnished aluminium frame with a quick one-handed fold as well as forward-facing and rear-facing seats. The Babyzen Yoyo, on the other hand, has black frames with a carrycot that can be set in a full lie-flat position and air-filled tyres.
Mountain Buggy Sport verso is another excellent all-terrain option. It's extremely lightweight and extremely maneuverable, as well as fashionable. This buggy is truly future-proof for your wallet and can be used from birth using the carrycot, right through to toddlerhood with the seat that is modular (and beyond!). All this is within the footprint of one buggy.
Duet(tm) is a side-by-side buggy that is small enough to be used in urban areas but is also a bit more creative and controlled. It has an exclusive seat made of fabric that is placed snugly within the frame at the perfect height to distribute the weight. This allows for easy kerb jumping and navigating neighborhoods and cities.
